Spin.com will be relaunching their redesigned website tomorrow to focus more on music – primarily with a music player right at the top (music player will be launched early March). With so many different outlets you can visit to stream music, it makes sense for Spin to offer streams to full tracks right on their site. Coupling full-length songs with articles gives readers a well-rounded experience.

According to Techcrunch, the redesign adopted elements from Spin Play, the magazine’s iPad app. As you browse through the site, music will keep playing on the player.  You can stream more songs, find articles about the artist and even buy songs through iTunes and Amazon as you click on the player while a song is playing.

The homepage displays different section. The top one is news, interviews and profile. The second section is the music reviews. After that,  there will a set of blogs. Spin also offers Spin 30 and other Spin Lists where the staff recommends tracks you should listen to.

The print version of Spin will also be revamped. The magazine reverts back to the larger, 9.5″ x 12″ size, with more focus on photography and design. The content will revolve around themes. Instead of updated news and music reviews, there will be long essays and reviews of classic albums. Spin is giving this now bi-monthly magazine a collectible value.

Artists can create a project video which tells potential sponsors what the funds raised will be used for, such as recording a new single or album, video production and tour support. Artists then set a target for the funding amount & a timeframe in which to reach the goal amount. Sponsors will receive incentives, like T-Shirts or concert tickets, for different pledge level.

Once the funding goal amount is reached in the time frame selected, the funds are drawn down via Paypal & made available to the artist to complete their project. If the goal amount is not reached No money is taken & the artist is free to try again.

D’Addario and Swing House Studios are holding a video competition to give one artist / band the opportunity to play in an official showcase in Austin on March 16th during SXSW.

Fans will vote on the videos and the top 25 will enter the final stage to win the grand prize, which includes:

• $3,500 in gear from D’Addario, Evans, ProMark and Planet Waves
• $1,500 in cash
• The gig in Austin

The finalists will be judged by the D’Addario and Swing Houst Studios staff for songwriting, musicianship and stage presence.

Youtube reaches 4 billion views per day, which is a 25% increase over the past eight months. About 60 hours of videos are being uploaded to Youtube every minute, compared to 48 hours uploaded in May. However not all videos viewed on Youtube are being monetized – only 3 billion videos are. Youtube is focusing on partnering with media outlets for original programmings and creating better opportunities for advertisers.

Back in 2010, stats revealed that music was the most popular category on Youtube – 30.7% of all views belong to music.

Today, SoundCloud announced that they reached a significant milestone – they reached 10 million users since their launched on October 2008. Over 5 million SoundCloud apps have been downloaded and 10,000 apps are being developed on SoundCloud’s open platform.

Today the largest torrent site, The Pirate Bay, rolls out The Promo Bay, a free promotional campaign platform to help artists reach millions of people.

The Pirate Bay sometimes replace their logo on their homepage with artists’ logos. This free campaign is an extension of that. Artists will have a chance to advertise their work to millions of visitors right on The Pirate Bay’s homepage.

Artists must offer something free in return to use the platform and can target a maximum of three countries. If The Pirate Bay team is impressed, they may choose to promote the artist worldwide.
