Reverbnation is offering artists of all genres an opportunity to  perform at the Florida Music Festival on April 17-20, 2013. The festival is at Orlando, FL. There will be more than 150 bands on 15 stages and Reverbnation is selecting 50 artists/bands to perform. The expected attendance is 4,000 per night, no doubt this means a chance to gain a lot of fans. Past headliners include Flogging Molly,  Third Eye Blind, Buckcherry, Better Than Ezra, Creed and many more.

Artists will receive free badges to the industry conference where past keynote speakers include Kevin Lyman (Warped Tour Founder), Monte and Avery Lipman (Universal Republic Founders), Steve Robertson (Atlantic Records VP of A&R) and Rodney Jenkins (Producer  for Michael Jackson, Beyonce, Alicia Keys, Lady GaG, Kanye West). It’s a great opportunity to learn more about the business, network and gain industry exposure.

Reverbnation is selecting artists based upon “professional RPK presentation, songwriting ability, recording quality, touring and history of work ethic.” There is no submission fee.

Kim Dotcom Launches Mega

A year ago, the US Government shut down Mega Upload for illegal file sharing. Kim Dotcom, founder of Mega Upload is launching a new site, Mega, and he says this time, it’s all legal.

Users can upload 50 gigabytes of files, store them and share them to other users. The difference is this time, the company will not know what are in the files because they are encrypted. The encrypted keys are in the hands of users only. Of course this means, once the user loses the password, they lose it forever since the company will not have access to it.

Experts are advising against using Mega, citing that the site is not secured and are prone to virus attacks. This did not discouraged users from signing up – after one day of launch and glitzy PR, Mega already surpassed one million users, causing the site to struggle against the massive demand.
